What is Periodontics?

Periodontics is a branch of dentistry focused on diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases and conditions that affect the gums, the bone structure supporting your teeth, and the mouth’s soft tissues. The most common periodontal issues are:

  • Gum Disease (Gingivitis and Periodontitis): A bacterial infection of the gums that can lead to tooth loss if untreated.

  • Receding Gums: When the gum tissue around the teeth wears away, exposing more of the tooth or the tooth’s root.

  • Periodontal Abscesses: Infection or inflammation in the gum tissue or bone surrounding the teeth.

  • Bone Loss: Loss of bone structure due to untreated periodontal disease.

Periodontists are dental specialists with advanced training in treating these conditions, restoring gum health, and preventing further complications. At VIP Dental SPAs, our periodontist provides tailored treatments to restore your gum health and keep your smile strong.

Why Periodontal Care is Essential for Your Health

Healthy gums are essential not only for a beautiful smile but also for overall health. Untreated periodontal conditions can lead to:

  • Tooth Loss: Severe gum disease can damage the bone structure and cause teeth to loosen or fall out.

  • Increased Risk of Systemic Health Issues: Research shows a link between gum disease and heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

  • Chronic Bad Breath (Halitosis): Periodontal disease can contribute to persistent bad breath that doesn’t go away with regular brushing or mouthwash.

  • Infection Spread: Untreated gum infections can spread to the jawbone and other body parts.

Early detection and treatment of gum disease are key to maintaining a healthy mouth and preventing these issues. At VIP Dental SPAs, we specialize in advanced periodontic treatments to protect your oral and overall health.

Common Periodontal Treatments at VIP Dental SPAs

At VIP Dental SPAs, we offer a wide range of periodontal treatments to address your specific needs. Our expert periodontist will assess your condition and recommend the most effective treatment options. Common treatments include:

  1. Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing):
We may recommend scaling and root planing if you have early gum disease (gingivitis) or moderate periodontitis. This non-surgical treatment involves cleaning below the gumline to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria, promoting gum healing and reducing inflammation.

  2. Gum Grafting (Soft Tissue Grafts):
For patients with receding gums, we offer gum grafting procedures to restore the gumline and protect exposed tooth roots. This can help prevent further recession and improve your smile’s function and appearance.

  3. Laser Periodontal Treatment:
We can treat gum disease precisely using advanced laser technology, removing infected tissue while minimizing discomfort and recovery time. Laser treatments are less invasive than traditional surgery, making them a popular choice for patients with advanced periodontal disease.

  4. Pocket Reduction Surgery:
If gum disease has caused deep pockets around your teeth, our periodontist may recommend pocket reduction surgery to remove bacteria and reduce the depth of the pockets. This helps prevent further damage to the bone and tissue supporting your teeth.

  5. Bone Grafting:
If gum disease has caused bone loss, bone grafting procedures may be necessary to restore the bone structure and prepare the area for dental implants or other restorative treatments.

  6. Dental Implants:
Dental implants may be recommended in cases of tooth loss due to severe gum disease. Our periodontist will evaluate your bone health and determine if you are a candidate for implants, helping you restore both function and aesthetics.

  7. Periodontal Maintenance:
After active treatment, regular follow-up care and maintenance cleanings are essential to keep your gums healthy. Periodontal maintenance may include frequent cleanings, exams, and additional treatments as needed.

Signs You Might Need Periodontal Care

Recognizing the signs of gum disease or other periodontal issues is important to seek timely treatment. If you notice any of the following symptoms, it’s time to schedule an appointment with our periodontist:

  • Gum Bleeding: Bleeding while brushing or flossing is often a sign of gingivitis or gum disease.

  • Swollen, Red, or Tender Gums: Gums that are inflamed or painful can indicate the presence of infection.

  • Persistent Bad Breath: Chronic bad breath may indicate gum disease or other oral health issues.

  • Loose Teeth: If your teeth are loosening or shifting, it could result from advanced periodontal disease.

  • Receding Gums: If your gums are pulling away from your teeth, exposing more of the tooth or its root, it could be a sign of gum recession.

Don’t wait until symptoms worsen; early intervention is key to successful treatment.

Preventing Gum Disease – Periodontal Care Tips

Prevention is the best way to avoid gum disease and other periodontal problems. Here are some tips for maintaining healthy gums:

  • Brush and Floss Daily: Proper oral hygiene prevents plaque buildup and gum disease. Brush twice a day and floss daily to remove food particles and bacteria.

  • Visit Your Dentist Regularly: Routine dental checkups and professional cleanings help catch early signs of gum disease and keep your gums healthy.

  • Avoid Tobacco: Smoking and chewing tobacco are major risk factors for gum disease and can impair healing after treatment.

  • Eat a Healthy Diet: A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help strengthen your immune system and support gum health.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps keep your mouth hydrated and reduces bacteria buildup.

They made me feel so welcome and were very helpful. I had not expected to be numbed during our visit and began to cry, they were so patient and gave me moments to breathe. They did not make me feel like I was inconveniencing them at all. They were fast and gentle. The front desk attendants were super cheerful and made sure I knew the exact costs and details of my appointment. When I came back for the second half of my appointment they made sure to numb me extra with the cream and not show me any needles. They squeezed in an extra service to avoid any additional appointments or numbing. If I can I’ll always come here for dental care
